About the Artist

"My goal is to capture the beauty and life of each house in a work of art that will be cherished by the recipient/collector and will stand the test of time; art that will become a family heirloom displayed for years to come. I have painted hundreds of homes for people and each painting is as rewarding and exciting for me as the first one."

       Janet Schulz is originally from New Jersey, where she studied and completed a degree in Fine Arts Education.  She worked in the commercial field for many years as a graphic artist and designer, using various mediums in creating her paintings, including pen and ink, oil, acrylics and watercolor.  She has had examples of her work appear in National magazines; has created the illustrations for two published children’s books and several book covers; has had her watercolors featured in Ferenc Maté's The World's Best Sailboats II,  has been noted in Legendary Locals of Bristol, by Christy Nadalin,  Arcadia Publishing.

       She studied portrait painting in oils under Marion Hale Nelson and subsequently received commissions to paint portraits of adults and children. However, her real love has always been watercolor, which she returned to and has worked almost exclusively painting watercolors since then.  Her inspiration comes mostly from architectural subjects and she is attracted to the feeling or mood of the setting, rather than just the object itself.

      For over 30 years Janet has gained a widespread reputation for her watercolor house portraits, having painted the homes of people across the U.S. and Europe. She has also been commissioned by Historic and Preservation Societies to paint architectural scenes that have then been reproduced as limited edition giclee prints.  In addition to painting architectural subjects for her clients, Janet has been commissioned to paint human portraits, boats, beloved pets, and “special places”.

      Today, Janet has broadened her artistic interests to painting human portraits again,  specializing in distinctive bridal portraits that are hand-painted in contemporary realism style (with a hint of fashion illustration).  LEARN MORE ABOUT BRIDAL PORTRAITS>
